Phoenix trip part 3

December 30, 2006 - Phoenix/Grand Canyon

I'm sitting out the conf supper here due to some mild indigestion, so i'll try to remember the last few days...

yep, so we finally made it to destination Phoenix; 4 hour ride of first class US airways. Front row seat, and they even let us put our feet up on the carpeted wall in front. Normally, when your half can of pop runs out, thats it. But in first class they'll refill it as quick as you can empty it. So we each had many cans of cran-apple pop.

So after tracking down our long lost luggage, we headed out to pick up that hyundia that i had reserved. Some friendly black dudes were running the place that night, and didn't seem to be too worried about much, evidently, as i walked out and noticed the keys that he gave me said 'Ford' on them, and fit quite nicely into the ignition of a new white convertible mustang. I guess i didn't mention to him that we were going up into the snowy mountains.

Lewises met us at the 'port, and we drove it out to their house. Right out in the desert, hills of dirt, scrub brush, cactuses and rock..very neato. Cheryle let us take their horses for a little rip the next day...within the confines of the coral (2.8mb vid), before we drove off, top down, towards the north.

Took the scenic route through Sedona, nice touristy spot with big red rocky pillars to look at, and made it to the south rim canyon by night. Visibilty was great, but it was a little dark to see much. It was as cold as Canada, and it shortly started to snow. Offshoot of a big system they're having in Denver, i hear.

Accomodations... at 100$ a night, one room left only at the lodge, honeymoon suite, so we decided to brave the weather and set up camp for the night. My +5 degree sleeping bag turned out to be a little inadequate, so i spent the second half in the warm car. Will really seemed to like that sort of outing.

So the next day we went for another look over the edge, and instead of pitch black we saw pure white. What a rip. I was ready to leave at this point, but Will wanted to go down into the mystery abyss. So we went and had a talk with a park attendant before coming to a decision..... maybe i'll write more later...
