UK trip part 1

May 19, 2007 - Toronto/London, England/Edinburgh, Scotland

Well, the long awaited trip to visit Dan in England was underway friday last, along with a proposed excursion to scottland, to make a trip out of it. But first, a quick stop in Toronto, on the way to the airport, to visit the boat people..

So a 6.25 hour plane ride later (plus delays) we arrived in London Heathrow, and proceded to find our way to Dan's flat, only a few train rides over. the balcony view (2.7mb vid).

6 hours after arriving, it was time to fly out again, to Edinburgh, Scottyland to have a look about for a few days. So we hopped a few trains again, this time with Mrdan, to head up to Luton airport for our 1.15 hour flight out. Things don't always seem to go smoothly when on a tight schedule. It was really interesting following V and Dan onto the jam packed subway train, only to get cut in front of at the last second, and seeing to doors close on arms and legs still sticking out, and being left on the platform. Had about 2 seconds to determine, through the very soundproof glass, what station to meet them at. Then, as we went to catch the bus for the hour long ride to Luton, we showed up only to see it pulling away. no problemo, we could afford to miss this first one. Went for lunch, and came back later for the next one, and spent our grace period doing a high speed lap of a city block looking for it. The mr. busdriver wasn't too pleased with the holdup.

We rented a spaceship in Edinburgh for the Scotland tour. I asked the rental dude for a diesel, so we could drive around the entire island on one tank full. Well, apparently, its not an 'island,' it IS the 'mainland,' and it seems to be a sore spot with some of the locals. So i made him feel better by telling him that Australia is an island too. We didn't get a diesel.

well the day didn't end here; you can do a lot more than that in a 36 hour day. So, we then drove on up north, along the Eastern coast, in search of some real castles. More to come soon..
